CANCUN, MEXICO – I don’t believe that District 9 is a movie that really needs a sequel. Neill Blomkamp’s first movie is so amazing that, if he had quit right after, he’d already had a great run. But he didn’t stopped and now we have Elysium, that look as good as his first movie. But what’s next?
In a EXCLUSIVE interview during Summer of Sony 2013, the South African director confirmed that the sequel for District 9 will indeed be called District 10 and he’s going to do it. Or, at least, he wants to.
“My goal is to do it. I already have a story and it’s pretty cool. At least I think it’s cool. The problem is when I’m going to do it. I want to make a comedy. After I’m done, what comes next? You don’t know. I feel like doing District 10, but I’m not sure.”
According to Neill, the idea for the movie is a story in the same universe, but using District 10 as backdrop. Now, if Wikus is turning back into a human, all about aliens coming back, Neill didn’t talk about it.
About Chappie, his next original movie, Neill said very little. “I don’t know if I’m ready to talk about it. I can say it’s sci-fi with some hilarious situations. And do you know the South African group Die Antwoord? They’re going to be involved”, said Blomkamp.
The director also said that Chappie has nothing to do with the comedy he is planning, but wants to release both films around the same time.
We also talked with Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura and Alice Braga, and you will be able to read their interviews soon, right here at JUDÃO. :)
